objectives of this unit

This unit will help the children:• Understand that God guides those who ask for his direction and are willing to obey• Accept God’s authority when he says “no”• Discover that wisdom only comes from God• Learn the desire we should have for giving God our best• Understand that even smart people can make mistakes and forget God, giving in to the bad influences he warns us about.

the reason we teach this unit

Through the lessons of this unit, our children will learn that loving, obeying, and knowing God are the secrets to true wisdom. At this stage of life, pre-adolescent children begin to reason abstractly. In pursuit of their own ideals and values, they begin to think for themselves, and often question the concepts of adults. Does this make sense? Do adults live what they teach? Does this work in real life? These lessons provide opportunities for our children to make decisions based on biblical concepts, and help establish a foundation that will help them live close to God. An analysis of the life of David and Solomon will serve as examples of devotion to God, and the dangers of disobedience. Our children will be encouraged to give their best to God. Through David’s life, they will see that it is important to seek the will of God, even if this is not what they would choose. Solomon’s life teaches us the advantages of being faithful to God and the dangers of being apart from him.
