CHRISTMAS: GOD SENDS HIS SON

memory verse for this unit

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him” (1 John 4:9, NIV*).

objectives of this unit

This unit will help the children:

• Learn that God loves us, and promised to send his son,• Realize that God sent Jesus to save us,• Celebrate the birth of Jesus with joy,• Understand that they should thank God for sending his Son Jesus.

the reason we teach this unit

In this unit our children will learn that God promised to send his son Jesus to the world. They will see that God fulfilled his promise when Jesus was born in Bethlehem. They will want to thank God for sending his Son, Jesus. They will understand why it is important to announce the Good News of the birth of Jesus. They will learn to worship Jesus for being the Son of God, the promised Messiah. Christmas is the favorite time of the year of many students. Young children have great expectations for this celebration. However, they can easily get lost in secular traditions and customs, so they need accurate and clear teaching on the true meaning of Christmas. They should know that when God sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, he gave us the supreme illustration of what it means to give.
