WE IMITATE JESUS
memory verse for this unit
“Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me” (John 14:21a, NIV*).
objectives of this unit
This unit will help the children:• Understand that they should live in peace with others, even those whom they think are their enemies• Know that, as followers of Jesus, they can give what they have because of their love of God and not for other people to see them• Know that it is bad to be greedy and selfish, and that God can help them love Him more than earthly things• Understand that salvation is for everyone who believes in Jesus and receives him as Savior.
the reason we teach this unit
In a time where models worthy of imitation are lacking, this unit has a fundamental importance. Nothing is more effective for children who are attracted to harmful examples of television, than to show them the model par excellence: Jesus. In this four-lesson unit, you will have the opportunity to teach them such important values as peace, love, God’s place in their lives and the importance of having the Lord in their hearts. Elementary-aged children are at an age where they are strongly marked by the values of their schoolmates. We know well the attitudes and ways of life of today’s children who come from non-Christian homes. Hence the importance of these lessons in helping the children imitate Jesus instead of television heroes or other secular characters.
