objectives of this unit

This unit will help the children:• Learn what it means to trust God and obey him, and believe that he will give them the courage to do whatever he asks them to do• Know that, just as God gave Joshua the courage to be the leader of his people, he will also give them the courage to do whatever he asks them to do• Know that God will honor them when they follow his instructions, and that he will make them brave when they dare to obey him• Know that the walls of Jericho fell because God did what he had promised; and that in the same way today, we can trust God fully and obey him because he knows what is best for us• Understand that God keeps his promises and often works through his people to do his tasks so their trust in God will also grow at the same time in his promises.

the reason we teach this unit

Fear, lack of courage to face some things, and disobedience are common in elementary students. That’s why, according to the approach and the dynamics that you have in your group, you can allow them to feel free of their small burdens, which can be very harmful to them. May they come to understand that, although invisible to human eyes, God is with them everywhere. This will help them overcome some anxieties that scare them a lot: feeling alone, away from home or helpless. In addition, they will learn, not in just one day but eventually, that being close to God will make them happy, and that when they obey him, he will take care of them in situations that generally cause them insecurity. It is important for your students to know that God is a friend who is always on their side.
