JESUS MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

memory verse for this unit

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV*).

objectives of this unit

This unit will help the children:• Believe and experience the love of Jesus• Know that people can be followers of Jesus no matter what they have done in the past and that Jesus is always willing to forgive whoever asks• Learn that Jesus loves all children and that he wants them to belong to him• Understand that, just as Jesus forgave Peter when Peter denied him, Jesus will also forgive our sins when we ask.

the reason we teach this unit

At this age, it is not easy to understand the word “sin.” Therefore, it should not be assumed that they will grasp the term during the session. But they are learning to discern when a person does good or bad things. Through this unit, they will be able to see the benefits that come from being good and honest. They will realize, too, that Jesus is a specialist in helping them to be better children, students and friends. Lead them to understand that before they had accepted Christ in their hearts, they were under the dominion of the devil (kingdom of darkness), but now, they are children of God (kingdom of light). If they used to lie, steal or say bad words, they now know that all of this is bad and they should no longer want to repeat them. Lead them to understand that when God gives us a new heart, we do not want to sin anymore, but to do good and honest things.
