LET’S LIVE LIKE CHRIST

memory verse for this unit

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:7, NIV*).

objectives of this unit

This unit will help your students:• Learn that God has the power to transform lives• Learn that obeying God will help them grow in their spiritual life• Learn that we cannot love others without the love of God• Analyze and understand that the biblical doctrine of the deity of Jesus Christ is the only truth.

the reason we teach this unit

It is common for children and youth to carefully observe the behavior of older people, trying to find models of behavior that they can imitate.

You can be an example of a good mentor, and you can help your group discover other good mentors. Here's what one good mentor (Edie Estep) recommends:
PRAY!
Seek a friend.
Seek someone further along the journey.
Seek someone older than you.
Seek one whose journey is successful and admirable.
Seek one with a heart for others and pure motives.
Seek one with adequate personal space for mentoring.
Seek one who can help in areas that you are weak in, where you need the most help.
Seek one who listens and provides great, sound feedback (by Eddie Estep).

In particular, the influence of the media can corrupt children and adults because it presents them with lifestyles different than the purity and holiness that the Bible teaches. During their stage of transition they begin to think independently and seek answers everywhere. In reality, what they seek is to define their own identity, which includes the spiritual aspect, although many times they choose to do the opposite. Through the writings of John, our pre-adolescents will learn more about some aspects of the Christian life. John teaches us the importance of a loving obedience to God, and that love is not only a feeling, but also action. They will realize that God shows them his love, and therefore, they will want to show that love to their neighbor. These lessons will help our students mature in their spiritual growth and understand the true meaning of love. Remember that just as Christians in the early church faced false teachings and philosophies, students today hear teachings that are contrary to the Word of God. Through these lessons, explain that we should ask God for discernment to get away from the false doctrines that threaten our faith.
