CREATION

memory verse for this unit

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful. I know that full well” (Psalm 139:13-14, NIV*).

objectives of this unit

This unit will help your students:• Become certain that God is the one who created and sustains the universe• Understand that the origin of life and the universe comes from God, the Creator• Learn the honor, privilege, and responsibility that we have since we are created in God’s image and likeness• Learn that sin separates us from God, and decide to strengthen their relationship with the Lord• Learn that it is their responsibility to take care of God’s creation.

the reason we teach this unit

The lessons of this unit will help our students know their origin and the reason why they were created. In many places, theories of evolution are increasingly popular. These lessons will help reaffirm what students may already know: God is the Creator of the universe and the only one that has the power to breathe life into beings. Through these teachings they will learn the differences between theories of evolutionary and biblical truths about the creation of the universe. It is important that students have the right knowledge to defend their beliefs and stand firm against theories of evolution they may receive at school. Help them understand that God as Creator and Sustainer of the universe deserves our obedience, gratitude and love.

Remember your role as their mentor and equipper. To become all that God has created us to be as Christ's disciples, we need to be willing to grow and to help others grow as Jesus did. Successful mentors are sensitive about relationships,
embody the grace of God,
know how to listen with acceptance and respect,
discern the moving of God's Spirit,
offer vulnerable openness in relationships, and
practice self-giving (in the Upward Call leader's guide).
