GOD HELPS YOU

memory verse for this unit

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV*).

objectives of this unit

This unit will help your students:• Learn that God is sovereign• Learn what it means to live a holy life• Learn that their relationship with God implies responsibilities• Understand that making foolish decisions always brings about bad consequences

the reason we teach this unit

In this unit your students will study what two Old Testament characters, Joshua and Samson, experienced and the decisions they made. Through the development of these lessons, they will understand that God is sovereign. Highlight divine sovereignty. Emphasize the memory verse (Proverbs 3:5-6) and each lesson activity. By knowing the decisions they made, as well as the actions and consequences that occurred in the lives of these characters, our students will learn that God is in control of all situations. However, he allows us to freely make decisions, and afterwards we enjoy or suffer the consequences.

When young people face difficult times and suffering, they are likely to wonder why it happens to them. Maybe God will not reveal the answer, but they will remember that he promised to help them resist and overcome if they trust him.

Mentoring and equipping is essential to Christian growth and maturity. All followers of Jesus are challenged and continue to grow and become Christlike when every disciple is providing and receiving mentoring. Paul's writings to the Thessalonians reveal that he experienced much joy in mentoring them. He wrote: "We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us" (1 Thessalonians 2:8).
