GOD IS WITH YOU

memory verse for this unit

“I can do all this through [Christ] who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13, NIV*).

objectives of this unit

This unit will help your students:• Learn that God is in control of all situations, regardless of how difficult they seem• Learn that difficult situations are not always a punishment from God• Learn to trust in the power of God in the midst of consequences• Learn that obeying God strengthens our relationship with him.

the reason we teach this unit

One of Jesus' methods of discipleship was through the personal intentional mentoring and equipping of a chosen group of individuals. It was these methods that helped Christianity grow and transform societies. Mentoring is a loving way to introduce pre-believers to the full knowledge of Christ as well as to teach accountability to growing believers. Landing and securing are both important in fishing and in discipleship. We do not achieve full satisfaction until one is both caught and properly landed. Landing requires one to be secured in a timely manner. New believers need mature guides and godly examples for early Christian living.

It is common that students have heroes and people they admire. In this unit, they will study the lives, lifestyles, and the decisions made by two people in the Old Testament that are worthy of admiration. In this world full of injustices and suffering, we are confronted daily with problems that affect how we feel and think. There are familial problems, economic problems, natural disasters, sickness, death, etc. Your students are not exempt from walking “through the valley of death”. Regardless, the Word of God is clear. Through Job’s example we understand that even through the most adverse times, God rewards the just. God has control over everything and, being the sovereign One, he does not need to explain his actions. When your students experience difficult times and suffering, they probably ask why it is happening to them. In these times, even though God may not respond to them in person, they can remember the story of Job, knowing that God has control over all situations. Besides that, they’ll be learning that God can give them the power and the strength to overcome things and continue believing in him.
