This unit will help the children:• Know that God is the creator and sustainer of the universe.• Know that people are God’s best creation.• Know that God has given humans the responsibility to care for creation.• Know about the wisdom, power and greatness of God.• Increase their sense of personal value and overall sense of security.• Praise God for his wisdom, power, greatness and creation.• Identify some ways we can care for God’s creation, and convey this to others.

the reason we teach this unit

The book of Genesis is the foundation for understanding the rest of the Bible. At school, or maybe at home, children have been exposed to theories that contradict God’s creation. As you teach these lessons, do not try to refute other theories. Emphasize that the Bible says that God created the universe and everything in it that exists. We do not know exactly how he did it, but we believe that the Bible is true.

Children have a natural curiosity to know everything: where it comes from and how it works. Impress on them the demonstrations of power, as you see in the cartoons, from magazines or television. Build on these interests, to guide the children to have a new appreciation for the greatness and power of God, the Creator. Help them understand that these stories are true and not imaginary cartoon fantasies.

God does what no one else can do. The knowledge that he is in control of this world should help your children develop a sense of security and confidence.
