TRUTH AND OBEDIENCE

memory verse for this unit

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV*).

objectives of this unit

This unit will help the children:

• Understand that God worked through men and women of the Old Testament that trusted him to fulfill his plans.• Grow in the knowledge of God’s greatness; and have confidence in the power he has to complete his plans.• Be available to God and trust in him and obey him.• Understand that trust and obedience are fundamental parts of our family, society, and spiritual relationships.• Learn to trust that God can answer our prayers.

the reason we teach this unit

Many of us have suffered bad experiences that have made us lose confidence in some people. Therefore, it is possible that we also have difficulty trusting in God. Teaching of this unit will help your children learn more about the power and grandeur of God; particularly his power to carry out his plans in this world.

The second emphasis of these lessons is that God does not usually work alone, he is looking for people to carry out his work, through actions of obedience from those who love and trust him. When we obey, our actions help fulfill his purposes.

When they hear the stories of Joshua, Hannah, Samuel, Nehemiah and Ezra children will discover more about the greatness and power of God. They will also see different ways in which the Lord works to fulfill his plan through people who trust and obey him.

Explain that the Bible does not tell about everything that happened with the people that are mentioned. Little is known of each of the situations they went through. However, the Bible characters had to trust in God every day, as we do today.

In this unit, your children will learn that God is always with us, helping us in many ways we do not even realize. When we trust in the Lord and do his will we are helping him do his work in this world. That is most important.
